Samuel Sandoval is a singer-songwriter out of Meriden, CT who records freak-folk songs out of his basement. Recently, the increasingly prolific artist has dropped his newest ‘sketchbook’ of an album Current Pretender.
A collection of songs remaining from last year’s Tupper EP and then some, the songs on Current Pretender continue down the path of smooth, meticulous finger picked acoustics with sparse drums, and playful electronics. Like most of Sandoval’s works, there is a delicate mix of both anything-goes, stream-of-conscious lyricism and emotional poignancy in his songwriting. Despite it’s decent accumulation of 21 tracks, Sam’s pleasant tenor and well-paced mix of moods increase its listenability, leaving us, the listener, looking forward to replaying it until the next release.
