Hot Gig: New London Drone Orchestra to Play Wherehouse Hartford – 6/8/19

New London Drone Orchestra
New London Drone Orchestra at Connecticut College

On June 8th, Wherehouse Hartford will be premiering an immersive audiovisual experience with the New London Drone Orchestra.

The New London Drone Orchestra is a protean collective based in southeastern Connecticut. Their membership is always shifting and evolving. Most players are from eastern and central CT as well as students, alumni and staff at Connecticut College, where they rehearse in the resonant Harkness Chapel.

Instrumentation can include pipe organ, bagpipes, saxophone, gongs, harmonium, flute, African hunters’ harp, grand piano, found percussion, voice, acoustic and electric guitars, synthesizers and more.

Their sound– and really, the experience– can make one forget their to-do lists, feel outside time or unusually present. Their music is sustained, layered and gradually evolving, using various techniques to organize musicians’ improvisation, including graphic scores and conceptual compositions.
